How to change the poster/thumbnail for a YouTube or Vimeo video

When a video is brought into SmartVideo (through Vimeo auto-conversion, or for any YouTube video already imported into your library), we also attempt to download the existing YouTube or Vimeo thumbnail to use as well. That way your migration to us is seamless with the same video and same image. This process only occurs a single time though as it is meant for assistance in migrating and doesn't keep the thumbnail synced with any future changes you make on other platforms.

If you would like to update the poster image on one of these videos, there are 2 ways to accomplish it:

  1. You can update the SmartVideo tag to specify the poster image of your choosing.

  2. For videos still on Vimeo (where auto-conversion is active), you can make a copy of your video so that it now has a new embed URL. Replace the old embed URL with the new one on your site, and our system will begin the import process anew, grabbing the new poster image you have configured. (Note: auto-conversion from YouTube is currently paused — for YouTube content, use option 1, or download and re-upload the video with your preferred poster.)
